I may be back?

1 min read
Trying to make drawing a habit again. In the meantime, crochet is relaxing. It's awesome making something that you can pick up and squish and it has weight and dimension and it feels soft.

How are you doing?

...and I'm going to try to get a bit more life in here, too.

I have not been drawing much in the last handful of months, though in January and February I had some fun getting my feet wet with resin work, metaphorically speaking. The photos felt a bit too makeshift to post here, but—

OK, enough with the sorta-negativity. I have been doodling/drawing a bit lately, and I want to draw more.

There are a lot of drawing challenges of the form "draw lots of images/sketches [to theme] month", and one for April is to draw fairies or fae creatures, under the heading of Faepril. So, there will be fairies incoming.

Little hitch at the start: I'm visiting family right now and don't have access to a scanner, but I can post something I sketched earlier this year.

Let's see what happens!

Well, hi!

At some point I'd decided to do months journal entries about my general state of being, of course focusing on creative output. You probably noticed I haven't been keeping that up.

What's going pretty well at the moment is sketching little things. I signed up to ArtSlam and gave as my topic "drawing animals from reference to improve my foundation for making up critters", and only skipped one day sketching so far, and still averaged more than one sketch per day. (The turtles and deer are a part of that.) I am kinda getting bored of drawing critters from photos, but it helps that I can jump around the animal kingdom. After the deer and a few ponies, I'm tackling insects at the moment.

Writing is giving me more trouble. I've picked up fanfic projects I ignored for too long (as in, wrote drafts last November, then never touched them again for editing and posting), but it all still makes me anxious, and that's way worse with original ficiton. At least I finally managed to sort my fiction files, which got chaotic being split between 4thewords and Scrivener. We'll see what happens.

General state of mind is that I seem to have come, or am in the process of coming, out of a depressive slump that lasted quite a while, and am now slightly disturbed about how motivated I can be. I'm breaking personal records when it comes to regular dishwashing.

I hope everyone who reads this is doing well :)
